OPTIMUS PRIME
“1997XF11″ was compiled from recordings made by Sean McCarthy in his basement, David Payne in his mom’s living room, and Joe Payne at his studio at University of Utah. Band Lineup was Doug Wright on bass, Mike Sartain on drums, Amber Jarvis on flute and vocals, Sean McCarthy on organ, and me, David Payne, the creator of this website, on guitar. Some tracks feature Robie Davis on drums and Gunnar Olsen on bass. Once at a concert at the Urban Lounge, some of us made a glittery posterboard with our new name, “The Glinting Gems”, and Sean was furious, so we kept the name “Optimus Prime” until finally changing it to “Blue Sparks” before we broke up. It is thus no surprise that my next group, “The Glinting Gems” featured some of these same songs. The purpose of this group was to rake in the dough at preppiest bars in town, like Port-o-call, but the dream was never realized.
